General Questions

How do I send my CD collection to Riptopia?
Upon receiving your order, Riptopia sends you a CD collection kit. Inside the kit you will find spindles, packing supplies and a pre-paid insured UPS shipping label. Simply slide your CDs onto the spindles provided by Riptopia and carefully re-pack them inside the CD collection kit. Seal the kit and affix the UPS shipping label to the outside. Once packaged, either call UPS for a pick-up or drop off the kit at the nearest UPS location for delivery to Riptopia.

Is Riptopia's CD Ripping Service Legal?
Under the Fair Use Copyright law, an individual has the right to convert CD to MP3 for personal use. Riptopia serves as the processing agent for its customers. Please review the Riptopia Terms of Service as well as the legal notice on each Riptopia DVD to learn more.

How long does it take for Riptopia to create my digital music library?
For orders of 500 CDs or less, Riptopia can create a digital music library and upload it onto new hardware in 48 hours or less (for Premium Orders). Larger orders naturally may take a little longer. If you have an order that exceeds 500 CDs, please contact Riptopia at 1-800-874-4921. A Riptopia Customer Service Representative will work with you to ensure the best and most efficient CD ripping experience possible.

How much does it cost to convert a CD single?

Are my CDs safe?
Absolutely. Riptopia cares for your CD collection as if it were our own. However, in the rare instance that a CD is lost or damaged in transit, Riptopia insures each CD for $10 for standard service and $20 for premium service.

Will my original CDs be returned to me?
Yes, your original CD collection will be returned to you shrink-wrapped along with your Riptopia Digital Music Library.

Technical Questions

My CDs are a little scratched. Will Riptopia be able to rip them?
Riptopia makes every effort possible to ensure that your Digital Music Library is of superior quality. Riptopia uses both proprietary hardware and software specifically designed for audio extraction and processing. Each track is ripped using robust error correction software to ensure the most accurate extraction of music from your CD collection. In the event that a track can not be ripped accurately, we will attempt to rip the track without any error correction; if this extraction is successful the track is logged and is noted as a possible 'Damaged Track'. In the unlikely event that this effort fails as well, we will skip the track and note it in an included log file as a 'Failed Track'. Most CD collections processed by Riptopia contain fewer than 1% damaged and failed rips, however each CD collection can vary depending on the condition of discs.

Are there any types of CDs that Riptopia won't rip?
Riptopia will not rip CDs containing copy protection software, badly scratched CDs, or homemade, copied, or pirated CDs. Please review the Terms of Service to learn your responsibilities as a Riptopia customer.

What are the technical specs of the converted files?
Standard Service (Ideal for iPods and wireless transmission of music) returns digital music libraries in form of MP3 192 kbps. Premium Service (Ideal for high-end media centers/music servers) returns digital music libraries in the form of MP3 320, AAC 320, WMA Lossless, FLAC and Apple Lossless.

I own an Apple computer. Will the DVD holding my digital music library upload?
Yes. Almost all Apple computers have a DVD drive, and your MP3s can easily be copied onto your hard drive using the included iTunes upload instructions.

Does Riptopia convert tapes and vinyl records?
The time and cost of converting tapes and albums is prohibitive for both Riptopia and our customers. The quality of converted tapes and albums is an issue as well. As a result, at this time Riptopia does not convert tapes and vinyl records.
